manila zoo maliFormer Miss Universe Sri Lanka Jacqueline Fernandez, known for her beauty and acting skills, has joined the tens of thousands of compassionate people who are calling for Mali’s transfer to a sanctuary. Fernandez has spoken out to help free the elephant that was taken from Sri Lanka more than 36 years ago. Since then, Mali has lived in a tiny barren concrete enclosure in the Manila Zoo.

The Bollywood screen star sent a letter to the Philippine consul general to Sri Lanka urging him to do everything that he can to expedite Mali’s transfer. “I feel a genuine kinship with Mali since we were both born in Sri Lanka. This proud native daughter has come to symbolize oppression and cruelty, things that compassionate Sri Lankans and Filipinos condemn,” writes Fernandez in her letter. “I hope you agree that Mali should not have to suffer any longer. Let’s give our girl a second chance at life.”

We agree with you, Jacqueline: Mali deserves better. You can also help Mali. Sign our petition, and if you currently live outside the Philippines, please write a letter to your local embassy or consulate of the Philippines asking officials to help give Mali a second chance!

Please this beautiful Elephant has given enough profit to the Zoo in Manila Phillipines while sacrificing her dear life on behalf of the mankind. These animals are very intelligent and majestic as well as social hence they engender a lot of empathy for humans. This innocent Mali has already contributed more than her fair share to this Zoo. There fore, it is now the Zoo authorities duty to be kind and compassionate towards to such a generous creature who had entertained millions of people in Phillipines and allow her to retire into a Sanctuary to spend her last days in peace and with her own kind. Such a large animal who have born to be free to roam has deprived her god given priviledges by the greedy humans. This is so so sad. PLEASE ALLOW THIS VOICELESS INNOCENT MALI TO BE SENT TO THE ELEPHANT SANCTUARY as proposed.
